The Amazon Rain forest in the world. It covers over five and a half million square kilometers (1.4 billion acres). More than half of this rain forest it located in Brazil, but also located in other countries such as Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Columbia, Guyana, Bolivia, Suriname, and French Guiana. Keeping this rain forest protected is a huge struggle. Deforestation rates have dropped while conserved land has been increasing over the past 10 years. The Amazon Rain Forest gets its name from the Amazon river, the life force of the rainforest.
